Our Story

 Solid Bread, LLC was started with a passion to teach the truth of God’s Word – every part of it, as it was divinely inspired to be understood.

The rules were simple. First, teach what is there. Don’t pretend the Bible is not saying what it IS saying.

Second, don’t teach what is NOT there. Don’t force a passage to say something it really doesn’t.

And – number three, if the Bible states it plainly, we should too.  Political correctness has seldom been an ally of truth or of any sound doctrine.

We need to chew.

Paul lamented in 1 Corinthians 3:2 that the young believers he was writing to were “….not yet ready for solid food.” He said they needed “milk” instead. While many Christians today would rather sip their doctrines through a straw, the Bible makes the point in Hebrews 5:12 we should be striving for “solid food.”  

God’s Word points to the person and work of Jesus Christ who called Himself the “Bread of life” (John 6:35, 48). It’s figurative language – just like “solid food” is – that Jesus used to describe Himself as the sole source of spiritual renewal. This “Bread of life” is found only in salvation by the blood of Jesus Christ. 

 

We need to think.

This is the good news of the Gospel, and while the Gospel is glimpsed in every book of the Bible, it is not always revealed in every passage of the Scriptures. Acting like it is doesn’t serve the important message of the Gospel well, nor does it properly unpack all the other truth that God wants us to know.  

 

We need to grow.

The best position is to treat each part of the Bible with equal respect. A responsible approach seeks to understand and accurately explain the divine intent of each portion. In 2 Timothy 3:16, we are reminded that “all Scripture” is profitable for our maturity in Christ and the conduct of our life.  It’s the only right way to see it.  

Our Teachers

STEVE SCHMUTZER

Steve Schmutzer is the driving force behind the Solid Bread class. He began teaching it over 15 years ago, and he has developed a well-founded reputation for teaching the Word of God with a straightforward, common-sense approach. His method and style of teaching the Scriptures has resulted in a steady growth of attendance.

Steve has a deep passion for the correct interpretation of Scripture. His extensive knowledge of Bible Prophecy has opened opportunities for Steve to write many published articles. Steve is well regarded within Bible Prophecy circles, and he is known for his articulate style of bringing clarity – whether by speaking or writing – to those seeking to learn Biblical truth.

Steve and his wife, Laura, a teacher, met at Moody Bible Institute. They live in the rugged foothills north of Fort Collins where they experience the ups and downs of being in a remote and untamed location. They have been married for 40 years and have two adult children.

DR. DAN STARCEVICH

Dr. Dan Starcevich loves God’s Word, and he is passionate about seeing God’s people thrive in their faith.  He has served in volunteer, pastoral, and other vocational ministry capacities for 30 years. He has also been a professor at Tyndale Theological Seminary. His website: www.theofaith.org is a great resource for sound theology.

Dr. Starcevich’s passion is also reflected in his broad and impressive education. He holds a Master’s in Management from the University of Southern California, a Masters of Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary, a Doctorate of Philosophy in Bible and Theology from Tyndale Theological Seminary, and a Doctorate of Ministry from Tyndale.

Dan, and his wife Cheri, are both veterans of the U.S. armed forces.  Besides being a mom of six, and a grandma of eight, Cheri has been Dan’s constant support throughout his diverse career in the aerospace, defense industry, and ministry sectors. Dan and Cheri live in Estes Park, Colorado, where they both enjoy walking, running, and hiking.  Cheri, an avid quilter, also loves mentoring women and serving in children’s ministries.

Jude: The Acts of the Apostates

This tiny New Testament book is chock full of instructions for the times we live in. Jude encourages us to “earnestly contend for the faith.” As part of that, this book warns us about ungodly leaders who enter the church, who foster carnal behavior, who distort the message of the Gospel, who seek to advance themselves, and who promote false teachings. Jude is direct and punchy in its style, and the lessons in this series will focus on this very timely message to “stand for the truth.”

Our Mission

To educate and equip believers in the fundamental tenants of the Christian faith, to exalt the Gospel of grace as it is revealed in the entirety of the Scriptures, and to teach Bible prophecy accurately and clearly through a literal hermeneutical approach.

The focus is directed to those who are of the Christian faith and who desire to learn, to grow, and to be challenged.

The method is typically expositional teaching which ensures important issues in the Word of God are dealt with forthrightly as God intended.

The style is dynamic and creative. Effective communication is important, whether it is through speaking or writing. To exalt the Gospel of grace as it is revealed in the entirety of the Scriptures:

The Gospel is an important theme throughout the entirety of God’s Word. Its foundations were laid in the Old Testament, and the Gospel culminated in the New Testament in the person and work of Jesus Christ. The Gospel is the good news of salvation. We are saved because God is gracious in extending to us unmerited favor through faith.

Some portions of the Bible are direct with the message of the Gospel while others are not. Responsible exposition of God’s Word seeks to understand and accurately explain the divine intent of each portion without imposing on it another preference or agenda.

To accurately and clearly teach Bible prophecy through a literal hermeneutical approach:
The Bible affirms the order of dispensations and their association with the evangelical fervor of the early church. Dispensationalism adheres to a literal interpretation of the Bible, particularly concerning the prophetic Scriptures. This theological system also holds to the view that Israel is unique and separate from the church in God’s divinely-ordained program. As members of the Church, believers’ destinies are centered upon the “blessed hope” of Jesus Christ’s imminent return. This event is the Rapture, and no fulfillment of specific prophecy is necessary before it can take place, which is why Christians through all ages have lived in the expectation of this joyous occasion.

A literal interpretation of God’s Word allows for the role of obvious figures of speech in the Scriptures. This hermeneutical approach naturally leads to a pre-Millennial view (Jesus will physically return to the earth before the onset of the physical Millennial Kingdom which He will personally set up and rule over) and a pre-Tribulational view (The Rapture will occur before the Tribulation begins).

Our Doctrinal Statement

The Bible is the complete and inerrant Word of God, supernaturally inspired as it is revealed in its original documents. It was, it is, and it will continue to be the supreme and final authority in faith and life.

There is one God. He eternally exists in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. All three are co-equal in power and glory, identical in their essential nature, and worthy of receiving the same honor, confidence, obedience and love.

Jesus Christ was virgin-born, and He was both true God and true Man. In His perfection and sinlessness, He died a substitutionary sacrificial death for the sins of the entire world and He physically rose from the dead.

Man was created innocent and pure, but being given free will He chose to sin. By sinning, he introduced corruption and he brought spiritual and physical death to himself and to the entire human race.

No single or collective act(s) of obedience such as water baptism or taking the Lord’s Supper may be added to faith, or considered a part of faith, as a condition for receiving eternal life. Man brings nothing to the salvation transaction between God and man. It is simply the giving and receiving of a free gift by grace through faith.

The Church is composed of all truly born-again people and is the Body of which Jesus Christ is the Head. The church began on the day of Pentecost and all believers, whether Jew or Gentile, from that day to the time when Christ raptures His Church, are united by the Holy Spirit in this one Body.

The blessed hope of the Church is the Rapture, the supernatural “catching up” of the saints to meet Jesus Christ in the air before the commencement of the Tribulation.

The Tribulation is a seven-year period – the “time of Jacob’s trouble” – during which God, once again, will give special attention to the purging and restoration of Israel. This terrible time of unprecedented judgment will conclude with the physical, visible return of Jesus Christ to earth to subdue all His enemies and to set up His earthly kingdom, headquartered in Jerusalem, for one thousand years.

Upon physical death the souls of those who have trusted fully in Jesus Christ for salvation pass immediately into His presence where they are conscious and able to interact in this blessed state. Upon Christ’s coming for His Church in the Rapture, their bodies will be instantaneously raised in a glorified nature and will be reunited with their souls to be with Jesus Christ forever in glory, and transformed into His likeness.

All those who reject God’s gracious offer of salvation in this life remain, after death, in conscious anguish until the Great White Throne judgment at the conclusion of the Millennial Kingdom. At this point, their souls will be reunited with a body which is equipped to experience, without annihilation, the dreadful and eternal torments of the lake of fire apart from the presence of the Lord.

The personality and physicality of Satan is a Biblical fact, and he and his fallen angels are doomed to eternal punishment in the lake of fire. Until such point, Satan is committed to overthrowing God’s prophetic plan, but he will not succeed.

Solid Bread, LLC stands firmly and uncompromisingly on the Word of God and in its literal interpretation. We choose to steadfastly maintain a separation from any movement or appeal which seeks the organizational unity of all so-called “Christianity” – and ultimately of all religions.
